The Dispute Process

Formal Approaches: Conference

”Image of a screen with a photograph of three adults sitting at a table. The two men are shaking hands. A series of tabs are at the bottom of the screen with the tab for Conference highlighted.

Text reads: Title: Conference. A conference provides an opportunity to:

Agreement reached: School prepares memorandum describing concerns and agreed upon solution. No agreement: Parent or school may request mediation. Parent has the option to waive mediation and request due process.”

A conference is the first and least formal means of resolving your concern. It provides you with the opportunity to clearly explain your concerns and to work closely with school personnel to define areas of disagreement and to collaborate on possible solutions. These solutions should result in a written agreement.
