A living will is a set of written instructions that explain a person's wishes regarding end-of-life decisions. The living will becomes active in the event of mental or physical incapacitation with no realistic hope of returning to a normal life. This document allows communication of any wishes regarding the use of artificial life support systems and authorizes a designated person to disconnect life-sustaining equipment.
