Military programs are governed by federal law, Department of Defense policy and additional policies specific to the branches of service. The below are the excerpts from federal law that govern substance abuse programs in the military.

Substance Abuse

Title 32 Code of Federal Regulations §634.13, "Alcohol and drug abuse programs," April 12, 2005 This legislation proscribes commanders' roles and responsibilities for referring military personnel suspected of drug or alcohol abuse for evaluation.

Title 42 United States Code §12114, "Illegal use of drugs and alcohol," January 3, 2012 This legislation addresses illegal use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.
