An Overview of the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act

Reauthorized in 2004, the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act is the legislation that ensures children with disabilities the right to a free appropriate public education, including related services necessary to meet their educational goals. The IDEA governs how states and public agencies, including DoD, provide early intervention, special education and related services to eligible children, ages birth through 21, with disabilities.
