A Message from the Associate Director

The team at the Department of Defense's Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program is always looking for new and innovative ways to bring information and resources to military spouses when and where they want them. In many cases, that means using the virtual world as our main means of communication. Utilizing virtual tools allows for the flexibility needed to engage spouses around the world. Each month we host a variety of virtual events with Military Spouse Employment Partnership employers and career counselors on Facebook and LinkedIn. We also offer several webinars on a variety of topics that are important to you.

We are also looking for new and innovative ways to provide spouses with the information they need. This May, in conjunction with Military Spouse Appreciation Month, we are trying something completely new. The first Department of Defense Virtual Military Spouse Symposium will take place from May 15-18. Over the course of these four days, we will feature more than 20 interactive online sessions with the goal of sharing innovative tools and information to help you on your career journey. The symposium will feature five tracks: career counseling, tools of the trade, wellness, corporate, and expertise from the field.

We have been working for several months to create a robust line-up of presentations. Our goal is to bring you dynamic presenters in a variety of areas. If you have not yet registered, please do so today. And better yet, bring a friend. By bringing a friend, you are helping us raise awareness about this event and the resources available to military spouses. Maybe your neighbor is a new military spouse, or perhaps your co-worker or your best friend is new to the military community. Maybe it's the spouse who asked you for directions outside the exchange. Whoever it is, please encourage them to join you at this year's symposium.

We want this first year to be a huge success that enables us to continue bringing this event to you year after year. Happy Military Spouse Appreciation Month to you and I look forward to seeing you online in May!
