Military Spouse Appreciation Month
Military spouses are known for juggling everything from home repairs and car maintenance to family pictures, all while trying to maintain a healthy relationship with their service member, who may be deployed halfway around the world. Military Spouse Appreciation Month, in May, provides an opportunity to reflect on — and remind us to show gratitude for — all that they do.
Military spouses make sacrifices that many civilians don’t have to make. Many also make sacrifices in their careers. The Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program works to counter the career sacrifices of military spouses, by working to launch, relaunch and bolster the careers of military spouses. Join our LinkedIn Group to connect with military spouses in your community and read discussions about avenues military spouses take in their career path.
The military spouse makes a powerful difference in the lives of our service members. During Military Spouse Appreciation Month, the backbone of our military community is acknowledged in a variety of ways:
- Presidential proclamation. The service of the military spouse is acknowledged every year in a presidential proclamation. The president’s message speaks to the strength and the patriotism of the military spouse and how their commitment to readiness ensures the well-being of our military members.
- MilitaryINSTALLATIONS events. Enjoy a variety of free activities, such as dance classes, bowling and horseback riding. The Morale Welfare and Recreation program at your installation recognizes this is the perfect time to bring fun and relaxation to the valuable members of our nation’s military family.
- Military Spouse Employment Partnership hiring fairs. Providing high quality of life opportunities helps to build a strong military spouse and family. Check out hiring fairs, educational luncheons and workshops that support our initiative to back all the accomplishments military spouses have made in their careers.
No matter where you are in the world as a military family, there is a military spouse community. Military spouses not only support our troops but they also support one another. From finding a babysitter or selling property before a PCS to sharing career opportunities. Visit MilitaryINSTALLATIONS to learn about opportunities where military spouses build relationships, increase networking opportunities and individualize their career plans.
