Military OneSource Non-medical Counseling - The Essentials

You always have support. Military OneSource counselors are available for free, short-term, confidential non-medical counseling services for a wide range of issues from marital conflicts and stress management to coping with a loss and deployments. Sessions can take place in person, over the phone, or via secure video or online chat.

Issues addressed

Confidential non-medical counseling addresses issues such as improving relationships at home and work, stress management, adjustment difficulties, parenting, and grief or loss. It does not address active suicidal or homicidal thoughts, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, alcohol and substance abuse, or serious mental health conditions.

Ways to access support

Military OneSource offers personal non-medical counseling services via telephone, face-to-face or through a secure, live video session or online chat. If a consultant determines the service is right for you, you will be authorized for up to 12 counseling sessions and connected with a non-medical counselor who best suits your needs. Access help for children

Military OneSource offers face-to-face non-medical counseling for children and youth ages 6 to 17. Counselors address issues such as family relationships, school concerns, adjustment to deployment or separation, and grief and loss. A parent must attend each session for military children ages 6 to 12, but only the first session for youth ages 13 to 17.

Confidentiality

Non-medical counselors can be trusted to keep your information private. However, they are required to report situations where you could be a danger to yourself or to others, situations that involve domestic violence or violence against another person, child abuse or neglect, and any illegal activity.

Eligibility

Active-duty service members, National Guard and reserve service members, survivors, family members, and designated Department of Defense expeditionary civilians are eligible for all Military OneSource services. In addition, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps students, military academy cadets, and under certain circumstances, parents and extended family members of active-duty, National Guard and reserve service members are eligible for limited Military OneSource programs.
