Family Advocacy Program Training

The courses below provide training for military leaders, clinicians and service providers to reinforce the prevention and response components for child abuse and neglect and domestic abuse. The courses highlight how military leaders and service providers can support service members, their partners and families who may be experiencing child abuse and neglect and/or domestic abuse, as well as ways for clinicians to evaluate risk and develop management strategies to prevent future abuse.

FAP for Leaders

This course provides an overview of the responsibilities commanding officers and senior enlisted advisers have as part of prevention and the coordinated community response. You will apply learning through case studies and receive information and resources that will supplement the in-person meeting you must have with your local FAP representative.

Length: 45 minutes
Audience: Military leaders and supervisors


FAP for Service Providers

This course provides an overview of FAP and details ways to recognize child abuse and neglect and domestic abuse, as well as how to connect service members, their partners and families to the program. You’ll also learn communication methods that will help you safely offer FAP-related resources. This course is not intended for those who provide FAP-specific services.

Length: 30 minutes

Intimate Partner Physical Injury Risk Assessment Tool Training

This course was developed to help you better understand the Intimate Partner Physical Injury Risk Assessment Tool, and how you can use it to evaluate risk and develop management strategies to prevent future abuse. The training includes a practical assessment at the end of the course to help you apply what you’ve learned.

Length: 60-90 minutes
Audience: FAP clinicians
