Benefit overview

The Navy College Program includes all aspects of the Navy voluntary education activities. The NCP supports including education into each sailor’s professional development plan. The NCP is primarily for active-duty sailors. However, the following may also participate if space is available and if at no cost to the Navy:

  • Sailors in the U.S. Naval Reserve
  • DOD civil service employees
  • Adult dependents listed in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System
  • Retirees
  • Members of other services

  • Preparing personnel for more complex training in an increasingly technical Navy

  • Providing education opportunities at all levels which encourage individual sense of worth and accomplishment
  • Providing educational services at every Navy command afloat and ashore

The Navy College Program has programs (such as tuition assistance) that can save you thousands of dollars per year on your education costs.

How to access this benefit

The Voluntary Education process in the Navy includes a mandatory counseling session with a trained education counselor. You will discuss your career goals and identify potential education programs. Additionally, your counselor will review your submitted education/degree plan and answer any additional questions you may have. Speaking with a counselor is mandatory to secure tuition assistance or funding when you are ready to begin school.
