War Department Adoption Reimbursement

Benefit overview

Service members on active duty, including reserve or National Guard members who are called to active duty for 180 or more consecutive days, may be eligible to request reimbursement for qualifying adoption expenses related to adoption of a child under 18 years of age. Federal law authorizes reimbursement for certain expenses associated with adoption to a maximum of $2,000 per child and not to exceed $5,000 per calendar year.

The DOW Adoption Reimbursement can reimburse you for qualifying adoption expenses for the adoption of a child under 18 years of age.

How to access this benefit

Complete the DD Form 2675, Reimbursement Request for Adoption Expenses, and submit the completed form and supporting documentation to the Defense Finance and Accounting Service for adjudication and processing.

Reimbursement must be requested no later than two years after an adoption is finalized. Refer to DOW Instruction 1341.09, DOW Adoption Reimbursement Policy for procedures and required documentation. Military OneSource offers free adoption specialty consultation.
