MWR Programs for the Navy
Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation — The Navy MWR division administers a varied program of recreational, social and community-support activities at Navy facilities worldwide. It provides active-duty, reserve and retired Navy personnel and their families with sports and physical fitness activities, child development and youth programs, and a variety of food and beverage services.
Navy Fitness Program — Provides traditional and innovative fitness programs to improve participants’ functional capacity and fitness awareness. It also offers promotions designed to increase health education.
Navy General Library Program — Supports all general libraries in the Navy. It includes more than 300 afloat and 30 shore locations.
Navy Entertainment — Provides live entertainment to service members and their families stationed overseas and on deployed ships.
Navy Community Recreation — Provides recreational programs and services in the areas of outdoor recreation, community events, discount tickets to attractions and vacation bookings, leisure skills development, recreation equipment rentals, parks and picnic areas, and information and referral to a variety of recreational offerings the local area.
Navy Marinas and Sailing — The Navy has 36 MWR marinas that offer a variety of boating opportunities ─ including kayaks, canoes, sailboats and powerboat rentals. Patrons can also rent equipment, store private boats and take boating safety lessons.
Navy Motion Picture Service — Offers first-run movies to ashore and afloat units at more than 45 Navy-operated theaters in six countries.
Navy Auto Skills Program — Provides patrons with equipment, supervision and instruction on the repair and maintenance of their automobiles. Many auto skills centers sell automotive-related products, operate car washes and manage the installation’s vehicle storage program.
Navy Community Recreation and Travel — The Navy Tickets and Travel office offers information and assistance regarding airlines, cruises, rental cars, land packages and attractions. Discounts are available to active duty, retiree, Defense Department civilians, reservists and their family members.
Navy Getaways — Navy recreational cabins, campgrounds and recreational vehicle parks provide military personnel with opportunities to enjoy their vacations in 19 states and three countries.
Navy Flying Clubs — Provide active-duty sailors and other authorized patrons with flight instruction for beginners and opportunities for recreational flying for more seasoned pilots. There are currently five Navy Flying Clubs, all located on bases within CONUS.
Navy Golf — Provides a wide range of golf courses in the United States and overseas. Courses offer open golf and tournament play, driving ranges, lessons, clubhouse dining and pro shops.
Navy Bowling — Offers open and league bowing, special youth programs, instructional classes, pro shops, game rooms and food and beverage areas at quality modern bowling centers, contributing to the quality of life the Navy community.
