Women, Infants and Children Overseas Program

Benefit overview

The Women, Infants and Children Overseas Program is a Defense Department/Defense Health Agency program that provides nutritious food to eligible service members and families. The WIC Overseas Program also provides nutrition and health screenings, tips on how to prepare balanced meals and other resources to help families lead healthier lives.

How this benefit helps

The WIC Overseas Program supplements the food you regularly buy with additional nutritional food items, such as canned fish, cheese and fresh fruits and vegetables. WIC Overseas program staff also provide:

  • Ideas for meal planning.
  • Recipes for nutritious meals that are easy to prepare.
  • A nutritional screening for parents and children, which may help identify medical conditions.

eWIC (WIC EBT)

Eligible families use an eWIC card to purchase food. Similar to a debit card, the electronic card replaces paper vouchers, offering a more convenient and flexible way to shop for WIC foods. The eWIC system will go live in the U.K. and Europe on Oct. 27, with Korea and Japan following on Nov.10.

How to access this benefit

A WIC Overseas Program counselor will determine whether you’re eligible for the program based on your income, family size and certain other criteria. You won’t have to requalify for the program if you were using WIC before transferring overseas. However, you will need to contact your WIC Overseas counselor to get started with the WIC Overseas Program.
