Military OneSource Introduces New Online Relationship Support Program for Military Couples

The Defense Department’s Military OneSource has expanded its range of relationship support by providing military couples with free access to OurRelationship, an online, evidence-based tool for addressing relationship issues.

OurRelationship is tailored to active-duty, Guard and reserve couples. Its flexible, self-paced format allows couples to work on improving their relationships on their own time – whether together or separated by distance due to deployments or other reasons. Couples also have the option of working on their own or with a coach, depending on their comfort level and individual circumstances.

OurRelationship consists of online activities that help military couples address and navigate common relationship challenges, such as lack of trust, emotional distance and difficulty recovering from painful events. A relationship coach reinforces the activities with phone or video calls for couples who choose that option. The program takes four to six weeks to complete, and coaching is available nights and weekends in addition to business hours.

The program has been tested in several nationwide randomized trials with more than 5,000 couples, including a research study for military couples commissioned by the U.S. Administration for Children and Families. Reports from the trials show 94% of participants were satisfied with the program and 97% would recommend it to a friend.

The addition of OurRelationship adds a new layer to Military OneSource’s continuum of relationship care resources, which includes resilience tools, coaching and non-medical counseling for couples and individuals.
