The following training resources are designed to assist child abuse prevention program service providers in managing their programs and providing the most comprehensive support to service members and their families.
Marine Corps
Leader’s Guide for Managing Marines in Distress This guide is a quick reference tool, designed to help leaders at all levels take care of Marines within the unit who are in distress because of their situation or behavior. It has content specifically focused on issues of family violence. Service providers can use the content in this guide to supplement materials they develop for leadership briefs or to help focus their development of staff training materials.
Navy
Navy Leader’s Guide to Managing Sailors in Distress The purpose of this guide is to help leaders at all levels (commanding officers, command master chiefs, department heads, division officers, chiefs) recognize distress-related behaviors, provide support to sailors within the unit and collaborate with helping agencies to meet the needs of individuals in distress. The guide aims to assist leaders in the decision-making process by describing a broad range of supportive interventions, resources and strategies for supporting sailors in distress. It has content specifically focused on issues of family violence. Service providers can use the content in this guide to supplement materials they develop for leadership briefs or to help focus their development of staff training materials.
Air Force
Air Force Leader’s Guide to Managing Personnel in Distress The purpose of this guide is to help unit leaders (commanders, first sergeants, and supervisors) recognize distress-related behaviors, provide support to individuals within the unit, and collaborate with helping agencies to meet the needs of individuals in distress. The guide aims to assist leaders in the decision-making process by describing a broad range of supportive interventions, resources and strategies for supporting individuals in distress. It has content specifically focused on issues of family violence. Service providers can use the content in this guide to supplement materials they develop for leadership briefs or to help focus their development of staff training materials.

Improving the Health Care Response to Domestic Violence Resources Manual and Trainer’s Manual: These training materials, created by the Futures Without Violence, formerly the Family Violence Prevention Fund National Health Resource Center on Domestic Violence, are intended to educate practitioners on various aspects of domestic violence, from initial screening, through interventions and treatments.
National Consensus Guidelines on Identifying and Responding to Domestic Violence Victimization in Health Care Settings: These guidelines, created by the Futures Without Violence, formerly the Family Violence Prevention Fund National Health Resource Center on Domestic Violence, are intended to assist health care providers from multiple settings and in various professional disciplines in addressing domestic violence victimization.
Command Brief: Promoting Protective Factors: The New Parent Support Program, a part of the Family Advocacy Program, is the Defense Department voluntary child abuse and neglect prevention program. On June 13, 2012, the Department of Defense policy that governs the NPSP was updated to a strengths-based model, focusing on establishing key protective factors and supporting expectant parents and parents with children under one year of age.
