Child Care in Your Home Pilot Year Three Toolkit

Furthering its commitment to provide additional military child care options to meet the needs of service members and military families, the Defense Department has introduced important changes in the third year of the Child Care in Your Home fee assistance pilot program. CCYH is offered in 11 locations with the highest demand and longest waitlists for child care and grants child care fee assistance for eligible families who have determined full-time child care in their home is the best solution to meet their needs.

What you will find in this toolkit

The department is committed to taking care of families and ensuring our service members have access to the high-quality, affordable, in-home child care they need and recognizes access to care is critical to military service members’ mission and to the quality of life for military families.

The Child Care in Your Home program is offered in 11 locations with the highest demand and longest waitlists for child care: the National Capital Region; Hawaii; San Diego; Norfolk, Virginia; San Antonio; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Seattle/Tacoma, Washington; Jacksonville/Mayport, Florida; Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Las Vegas.

Program enhancements and changes that impact and support military families in all CCYH regions/locations include:

• Families are permitted to share a nanny/in-home provider through a Nanny Share Agreement.
• CCYH providers will have the opportunity to care for their own children in the service member’s home when there is a written agreement between the service member and the provider.
• CCYH providers will be allowed to reside with the family when hired to provide child care services.

Through Military OneSource, you can help connect military families to resources and support that impact a range of issues unique to military families and children — including child care and fee assistance.

• Expanded hourly child care for military families — Through Military OneSource, military families can access a nationally recognized caregiver database to search for hourly, flexible and on-demand child care.
• Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood-PLUS — In addition to CCYH fee assistance, the department has expanded its child care program eligibility requirements for civilian providers in the local community to increase affordable care for military families.
• School Liaison Program — Education and transition support is available anytime it’s needed to ensure a smooth transition for military-connected children to new schools and new communities, including assistance with school-age care programs.
• Child Care Aware® of America — Child Care Aware® of America is the third party administrator for CCYH, administering child care fee assistance on behalf of military families.
• MilitaryChildCare.com — Families residing in eligible locations/regions may request the CCYH fee assistance pilot program through MilitaryChildCare.com, the department’s request-for-care system. The DOD created MilitaryChildCare.com to streamline the search for child care process and connect families to information and quality child care resources.
• EFMP & Me — Available through Military OneSource, the EFMP & Me online tool provides 24/7 access to resources for families with special needs and the providers and leaders who support them.
• Military Parent Resource Center — Military parents can find support, tips and information in this resource center that facilitates positive parenting for all military families.
• Boys & Girls Clubs of America Military Youth Programs — Children of active-duty, National Guard and reserve families may be eligible for free membership to their local Boys & Girls Club.
• Sesame Street for Military Families — Find education and activities for preschool-aged children to help them cope with the challenges of military life.
