Wounded Warriors – Resources

Military OneSource and other government agencies provide services and resources to help eligible wounded, ill or injured service members, veterans and their families get immediate assistance for issues related to health care, facilities, support and benefits. While Military OneSource does not provide direct health care services, it does offer non-medical counseling and information about health care services and resources.

Military OneSource wounded warrior specialty consultations

Military OneSource provides wounded warrior resources and specialty consultation services to help eligible wounded, ill or injured service members, veterans and their families get immediate assistance for issues related to health care, resources, facilities and benefits.

Military wounded warrior programs

Each service branch operates a wounded warrior program to help service members and their families with information and resources on non-medical issues associated with transitioning back to duty or civilian life.

Emotional health support

  • Chaplains: In addition to offering spiritual guidance, chaplains in military units and commands are trained counselors who are attuned to military life.
  • TRICARE: Therapy services may be available through TRICARE. Your primary care manager can refer you.
  • Wounded Warrior Project®: A number of counseling, support and outreach programs and services for injured service members and their families are available through this program.
  • Department of Veterans Affairs: The VA provides counseling services to assess and treat mental health issues and offers support through an online portal called Make the Connection. The VA also offers adult day health care respite services.
  • Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans of America are service organizations that are focused on helping veterans move forward.

Caregiver-specific support

Relationship support

  • The Military OneSource Re the We program assists service members in rekindling, repairing and resetting their relationships with a variety of services, resources and expert guidance.
  • Military OneSource’s Building Healthy Relationships specialty consultations can help you deepen relationships with family, friends and others through an education-based consultation.

Mobility resources

Sometimes a major injury or illness can affect mobility. If you or your loved one are facing new physical challenges, be sure to check out these resources:

  • Access all of the federal government’s disability-related information and resources.
  • VA Home Loans: These loans and grants are available to adapt the homes of disabled veterans or help them buy accessible homes.
  • Homes for Our Troops, Inc.: This privately funded nonprofit builds specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans nationwide.
  • Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes: At this site, wheelchair-bound or blind veterans can receive financial assistance to buy homes that accommodate their disabilities.
  • National Resource Center on Supportive Housing and Home Modification: This nonprofit provides helpful advice and links, including state-by-state information.

Computer/Electronic Accommodations

  • The Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program provides assistive technology and accommodations to support individuals with disabilities and wounded, ill and injured service members throughout the federal government in accessing information and communication technology.

National Resource Directory

  • The National Resource Directory is an online partnership for wounded warriors, ill and injured service members, veterans, their families and those who support them.
  • The NRD has information about thousands of national and local programs, services and organizations that support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.
