Eligibility for Military OneSource Services

Overview

Support for Coast Guard

All active-duty and reserve Coast Guardsmen and families are now eligible for Military OneSource services.

Military OneSource offers free, confidential support and resources, including help with finances, mental health, relocation, relationships and more. This support is available for service members, immediate family members and, in some cases, Defense Department civilians.

Read below to get more detail on who is eligible and for what services, along with a high-level overview of Military OneSource’s full range of support services offered to the military community.

Who is eligible for Military OneSource services?

The groups below have access to Military OneSource’s full range of services.

  • Active-duty service members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard
  • National Guard and reserve service members and Coast Guardsmen, regardless of activation status
  • Active-duty immediate family members, including spouses, children and anyone who has legal responsibility of the service member’s children during separation for the child’s benefit
  • Immediate family of National Guard and reserve service members, including spouses, children and anyone who has legal responsibility of the service member’s children during separation for the child’s benefit
  • Immediate family of Coast Guard service members, regardless of activation status, including spouses, children and anyone who has legal responsibility of the service member’s children during separation for the child’s benefit

The DOD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program is only available to spouses of Coast Guard members when they are activated under the Department of the Navy. However, all Coast Guard spouses can call or chat with Military OneSource to be connected to alternative career support resources.

Medically discharged service members and their immediate family members currently enrolled in their service branch’s program for wounded, seriously ill or injured warriors

Caregivers of wounded warriors, seriously ill or injured service members (This includes spouses, parents and anyone who has legal responsibility for a service member’s child.)

  • Surviving spouses of an active-duty death, National Guard, Coast Guard or reserve service member (regardless of activation status or cause of death, who have not remarried)
  • Surviving children of an active-duty death, National Guard, Coast Guard or reserve service member (regardless of activation status or cause of death)

Military academy cadets enrolled in one of the service academies for the Army, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard

  • Active-duty foreign military service members assigned to U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force installations who are registered in DEERS
  • Foreign military service members who have a DOD-issued common access card with MWR/commissary/exchange privileges
  • Immediate family members of foreign military active-duty service members registered in DEERS (This includes spouses as defined by 10 United States Code Section 101 and children.)

Eligibility for temporary access to Military OneSource services

The following are eligible for services for a temporary amount of time:

  • Retired service members and their immediate family members until 365 days past end of tour of service or retirement date, including service members on the Temporary Disability Retirement List and recently retired members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force
  • Discharged service members (if discharged honorably) and their immediate family members until 365 days past end of tour of service or discharge date, including recently discharged veterans of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force
  • Retired and discharged Coast Guard members (if discharged honorably) and their immediate family members until 365 days past end of tour of service, retirement date or discharge date

The DOD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program is only available to spouses of Coast Guard members when they are activated under the Department of the Navy. However, all Coast Guard spouses can call or chat with Military OneSource to be connected to alternative career support resources.

Designated department expeditionary civilians, as defined by Directive-type Memorandum (DTM)-17-004, “Department of Defense Expeditionary Civilian Workforce” during the 90 days prior to deployment and 180 days postdeployment

Eligibility for partial Military OneSource services

The following are eligible for partial services:

Immediate family of designated Defense Department expeditionary civilians (including spouses, children and anyone who has legal responsibility for the workforce member’s children, for the benefit of the children) are eligible for:

  • Military OneSource online directories, tools and webinars
  • Contact center assistance
  • Document translation and language interpretation
  • Financial counseling and tax consultation
  • Confidential counseling

Eligibility for Military OneSource directories, tools, webinars and the contact center

The following are eligible for the online directories and webinars, as well as contact center consultation and services:

  • Reserve Officers’ Training Corps students enrolled in an accredited ROTC program
  • Delayed-entry and future recruits who have entered into a nonbinding but promissory contract with the military (Those under 18 are required to have parental consent for selected services.)
  • Parents and immediate family members of delayed-entry recruits and future recruits when needing assistance with issues directly related to or on behalf of their future recruit, including anyone who has legal responsibility for a future recruit’s children
  • Active-duty, National Guard and Coast Guard parents and extended family members when needing assistance with issues directly related to or on behalf of their service member, including persons authorized to conduct business on behalf of the service member (If you are caring for a service member who is wounded, ill or injured, or are the designated legal guardian, you have access to more benefits. See the caregivers section.)
  • Surviving parents of an active-duty death, National Guard, Coast Guard or reserve service member (regardless of activation status or cause of death)

Military OneSource services for DOD service providers and leaders

Employees in direct support to service members and military family members (employees of Navy Fleet and Family Support Center; Army Community Services; Marine Corps Community Services; Air Force Family Readiness; Department of Defense Education Activity, State JFHQ, Family Assistance Centers, Veterans Administration, American Legion, and Veteran of Foreign Wars, etc.) are eligible for:

  • Military OneSource online directories, tools and webinars
  • Contact center assistance
  • Document translation and language interpretation
