Allowances

Benefit overview

Allowances are additional money provided by the DOD for specific needs, such as food or housing. The government provides monetary allowances when it does not provide for that specific need. The most common allowances are Basic Allowance for Subsistence and Basic Allowance for Housing. These allowances often make up a large portion of a service member’s compensation.
