Sponsorship

Overview

Sponsors are trained service members who help newcomers settle into a new duty station. They are available to all military families, no matter where you are moving. Sponsors offer a friendly face to greet you and your family at your new location and provide personal experience and recommendations to help you feel at home. Typically of a similar rank and family status, a sponsor can assist with everything from connecting you to local housing resources, to showing you around the installation and recommending the best places for children to play.

Military sponsors offer something no briefing or memo can — a friendly face and a wealth of personal experience.

Seeking sponsorship — Sponsorship & You: Sponsorship Awareness course

If you are a service member or spouse getting ready for a permanent change of station move, the Sponsorship & You: Sponsorship Awareness course can help you understand the sponsorship program and learn about the resources available to help make your PCS as easy as possible.

Important details about the Sponsorship & You: Sponsorship Awareness course:

  • It’s free and available 24/7 through MilLife Learning.
  • The course offers a magazine-style format that allows you to choose topics and articles that most interest you.
  • It highlights resources and benefits to help you prepare for your move.
  • You can find tips for moving with children, moving overseas, shipping your vehicle, connecting to local services, and more.

Sponsoring others — eSponsorship Application and Training course

If you are a service member interested in becoming a sponsor, the updated, interactive eSponsorship Application & Training, or eSAT course gives you all the resources you need to help other service members have a successful move. Find details and a link to the course below:

The eSAT is now more comprehensive and uses real-life situations to test your knowledge as you gear up for sponsorship.

  • Course content is more dynamic and effective.
    • Course content has been streamlined to 4 “mission” challenges.
    • Additional quiz questions offer increased chances to successfully complete your missions.
  • Course format can be tailored to new or experienced sponsors.
    • Experienced sponsors can demonstrate their knowledge with a pretest score of 85% or higher and earn their certificate.
    • New sponsors can skip the pretest and go directly to the course.
    • Course can now be completed in approximately 40 minutes.
  • Tools and Resources feature helpful, service-specific sponsorship resources.
